cast on 70st, work 30 rounds


Decrease for top of hat: (K5, K2tog) around knit 2 rounds (K4, K2tog)
around knit around (K3, K2tog) around knit 2 rounds (K2, K2tog) around knit
around (K1, K2tog) around knit around (K2tog) around knit around
K2tog around (5sts), and draw yarn up through stitches to bind off.
Ears:
Stitches are picked up on two dpns, counterclockwise, and ears are knit
‘inside out’ so that purl side faces outward. On the first needle you will
pick up your stitches downwards from the crown towards the brim. Stitches
will then be picked up going upwards towards the crown on the second needle.
With one US 3 dpn, pick up and knit 12 stitches alongside one of the
decrease lines of the hat approx. 4 stitches from the center bind off. With
second dpn pick up and knit 12 stitches up the other side of the decrease
line. (See photo below)
Knit 3 rounds Decrease for top of ear:On each needle:
K2tog, knit until last two stitches, K2tog (4 sts reduced) Repeat until 4
stitches remain on each needle (8 total) Bind off and mattress stitch
opening closed
Repeat for other ear on the matching decrease line on the opposite side of
the hat. Weave in ends.
